what the hell are you doing? reflections on art practice

‘P45’: following up on monday’s class discussions about the climate for art making here, i had a great chuckle at laura fitzgerald’s video piece ‘P45’ about the state of a viable art practice: the cycle of studio, applications, rejections etc, all to the neglect of home, family and ‘a decent fucking job’. enough to make you doubt, laugh and carry on!

‘why be an artist?: another related video i came across on the art teacher swap group last week was a short video where Noel Sherridan explains ‘why be an artist’ by pointing out all the reasons not to be an artist. paraphrasing Sherridan – ‘be oppositional to the manifestations of the super structures’…. ‘why be an artist, well why not?’
